How to Make a Madeleine Tower at Home | One Bottle Bake
Create a beautiful Madeleine Tower at home with a few simple essentials. Here’s everything you need to build, decorate and serve your own.
What Do You Need to Make Your Own Madeleine Tower?
A Madeleine Tower may look elaborate, but making one at home is surprisingly simple, especially when you know exactly what you need before you start.
Golden Madeleines, a beautiful cake stand, a few flowers, maybe a touch of chocolate, and suddenly a simple French cake becomes the centerpiece of the table.
The trick isn’t complicated pastry work. It’s having the right supplies, choosing your theme before you begin, and giving yourself a little time to have fun with it.
But what do you actually need to make one?
“The secret to a beautiful Madeleine Tower is planning the look before you start baking.”
First, Pick Your Theme
Before buying anything, decide what you want your tower to look like.
Romantic and white for a bridal shower?
Soft pink for a birthday?
Greenery and flowers for a summer dinner?
White and gold for a wedding?
Your theme will tell you what chocolate, flowers, ribbons and decorations you actually need — and stop you from buying everything you see at the baking store.
Pick the mood first. Then build everything else around it.
1. Your Madeleines
This is obviously where it all begins.
Depending on the size of your foam cone and your Madeleines, a medium tower may need roughly 30–40 Madeleines, while a larger, fuller tower can take closer to 50.
So plan on approximately one or two One Bottle Bakery Madeleine Mixes, depending on the size of the tower you want to create.
And this is one of those projects where a baking mix makes a lot of sense.
You already have flowers, chocolate, molds, a cone and decorations covering the kitchen counter.
You don't need ten more ingredient packages joining the party.
With the dry ingredients already measured in your OBB Madeleine Mix, you can focus on baking enough beautiful little cakes to build your tower.
2. A Madeleine Mold — Or Two
Of course, you need the signature shell.
A Madeleine mold gives these little cakes the shape that makes the finished tower so beautiful.
If you're planning to add a chocolate shell, we especially like the idea of using silicone Madeleine molds.
Once your Madeleines are baked and completely cool, clean the mold and add a thin layer of melted chocolate into each shell cavity.
Then gently press the Madeleine back into the chocolate and let it set.
Once firm, carefully release it.
And suddenly your simple Madeleine has a beautiful, detailed chocolate shell.
“The same little shell that shapes your Madeleine can help decorate it too.”
A little tip: if you have two molds, the process moves much faster — especially when you're making 30, 40 or 50 Madeleines.
3. Your Foam Cone

This is the hidden architecture behind the whole thing.
A simple foam cone gives your Madeleine Tower its height and shape.
Choose the size based on how dramatic you want your finished tower to be.
Before adding the Madeleines, wrap the foam cone securely in plastic wrap.
Then place it directly onto the cake stand or serving plate you plan to use.
Do this before you start building.
Trust us. Moving a finished tower is not the adventure you want.
4. Chocolate — White, Pink, Blue... Whatever Fits Your Theme
This is where things get fun.
You have two easy directions.
Option one: use coloured candy melts or compound coating.
They are available in lots of colours, melt easily and don't require the tempering that real chocolate does.
For a first Madeleine Tower, this may be the simplest option.

Option two: start with white chocolate and create your own colour palette.
But there is one very important rule:
Don't use ordinary water-based food colouring in your chocolate.
Look for oil-based or fat-soluble colouring specifically made for chocolate.
That way you can turn white chocolate into blush pink, sage green, lavender, baby blue or whatever colour fits your celebration.
If you're new to chocolate work and simply want an easy, colourful finish, buying ready-coloured candy melts is probably the least stressful route.
5. Toothpicks — The Part Nobody Sees
Pretty flowers get all the attention.
Toothpicks do the actual work.
They help secure each Madeleine to the wrapped foam cone as you build your rows.
Start at the bottom and work your way around, slightly overlapping the Madeleines so the foam underneath disappears.
Continue upward until you reach the top.
Don't worry if every Madeleine isn't positioned exactly the same way.
A little imperfection is what makes homemade beautiful.
6. Now for the Pretty Part
Once the Madeleines are in place, the tower becomes yours.
This is where the theme you chose at the beginning comes back in.
You might use:
Fresh or edible flowers
Baby's breath
Berries
Greenery
Ribbon
Edible pearls
Sprinkles
Powdered sugar
Chocolate drizzle
A personalized topper
You don't need all of them.
In fact, you probably shouldn't use all of them.
Choose two or three details and let the Madeleines remain the star.
“The prettiest towers often aren't the ones with the most decoration.”

Then Make an Afternoon of It
This doesn't have to be another thing you need to finish before the party.
Invite your friends.
Put the chocolate on the table.
Bring out the decorations.
Bake the Madeleines together.
And build.
For a bridal shower, make it with the bridesmaids. For a birthday, turn it into a girls' afternoon. For a baby shower, build one together as part of the celebration.
Because by the time you're finished, you haven't just made dessert.
You've made part of the memory.
It Really Can Be That Simple
A Madeleine Tower looks like the kind of dessert you need to order weeks in advance.
But underneath the flowers, ribbons and beautiful little shells, the formula is surprisingly simple.
Madeleines. A cone. Chocolate. A few decorations. And your own creativity.
And with One Bottle Bakery Madeleine Mix taking care of the measuring, there is one less thing to think about — and a lot less mess on the counter.
“It may look like it came from a pâtisserie.”
But you get to say, “I made it.”
